The War
Still too early to gauge. Clearly an effective opening volley but, where do we currently stand? Consulting a spectrum of “news” sources gets one nowhere. On one side (e.g. Fox News) it’s a perfect mission on track to achieve all goals. On the other side, (e.g. CNN), it’s already a failing unneccesary boondoggle (twelve days in), initiated for no apparent reason and doomed to failure. My own take, though somewhat non-comital is that, in spite of arguments against initial action, we’re where we’re at now. Finish the job. One can wish it was never begun but showing support for a brutal theocracy committed to annihilating Israel and the U.S. hardly shows any degree of insight or clarity. Remember, this regime, just prior to the war, slaughtered 30,000 of its own citizens. Iran consistently expressed an ultimate goal of bringing about the Muslim version of Armageddon and just prior to this war, bragged that it had enough refined uranium to build eleven nuclear bombs.
There are certainly exceptions, and it may be somewhat simplistic but, my general rule in such matters is that, when a brutal dictatorship is at war with an open relatively democratic society, I side with the free nation. But, that’s just me. There are certainly plenty of people more than willing to wave a flag in honor of any team but one’s own.
